Who is this Dave guy anyway?

Well, I probably can't entirely answer that question in a paragraph or three, but I can give you some hints.  Most importantly, I am not a man who is above gluing a mohawk to my helmet and racing Cyclocross on a single speed BMX bike with 24" wheels.  Is this the way to win?  Probably not, but it was a heck of a lot of fun!  To tell the truth, it was the most fun I'd had in years.  If you want to try it some time, I'll loan you my Redline.

Other strange facts about me: I don't ride clipless pedals.  I know, that is very nearly heresy in the modern world and if you want to hear something even weirder, I don't ride with toe clips either.  Crazy!  Yep, I ride good old platform pedals.  Why?  Well, they allow just about as much variation in foot position as one can have and still spin the cranks.  This is good for my beaten old knees, which keeps me riding, and riding is what I love most in life, second only to Jess and Bob.  

Track bikes, road bikes, mountain bikes, BMX bikes, touring bikes, cyclocross bikes, single speeds, trails bikes and trials bikes.  I love them all.  They get my brain and my heart equally engaged (kind of like my wife) and that is a beautiful thing. 

One of the bikes I own was a little bit expensive.  The others weren't.  The most expensive bike I ever owned was also the most uncomfortable.  It was built by a major titanium frame manufacturer and it just didn't work for me.  I need a 49cm seat tube and a 58cm top tube.  Nothing but custom seems to fit me, so I had to start building my own frames and forks.

If I'm having a really good ride I will sometimes notice after many miles that I am actually singing.

I have been known to wear a sombrero.
