| It may sound odd, but I don’t use any power tools when I build frames and forks. I could probably save a bit of time if I went the power route, but I wouldn’t enjoy the work nearly as much and I wouldn’t get better results. There’s just something about the idea of using a 2,800 pound milling machine to do what can be done with a hand file that seems a little strange to me. Besides, the time savings would be totally offset by the financial costs of the machinery and a larger, more accessible shop.
In the beginning I learned to work with files and I spent a lot of time getting really good at making perfect tube miters by hand. Now that I have hand mitering down I just don’t see the point in investing time and money employing machinery to "help" me. Plus filing by hand keeps my forearms in shape.
